I'm always amazed when I get emails from people asking me if they should submit their site to search engines and how many meta keywords they should use. Last time I checked it's not 1997.

As for hurting others sites I totally agree It can be done and I've seen it done it sucks.

What are your thoughts on no-follow blog comment links? I think Local SEO and I have a similar stance. They might not pass any juice, they might build a little relevance, but if you can sneak one into a competitor's popular blog post why the heck not?

Take the click-thru traffic and if anything else comes of it consider it a bonus.

I have tried explaining the one about Google not paying attention to the key word meta tag. It's amazing how badly customers hang on to a piece of information they read one time online.

"I need to have all my keywords in my keyword meta tag."

"No you don't."

"Yes I do, my sister's boyfriend's cousin told me I needed to have all my keywords in my keyword meta tag."

"No you don't, but there you go. You have all 50 of your keywords that your sister's boyfriend's cousin told you that you needed."

If you are paying someone because of their expertise then trust that they know what they are talking about.

Peace,
Jay

I agree, people tend to think there are all these crazy ingredients in SEO that you need but at the end of the day it all revolves around quality content, branding and user experience. If you fill those voids over time you generate rankings.
